WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Sept. 2, 2023) - Valley High School football player Zay Robinson spoke to reporters after leading his team to a 24-18 victory over Southeast Polk High School on Friday night.

Robinson, a senior running back, rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. He also caught three passes for 55 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown reception.

Robinson's performance helped Valley improve to 2-1 on the season. The Tigers are now off to their best start since 2018.

"It was a great team win," Robinson said. "We knew Southeast Polk was a tough opponent, but we were confident in our game plan. We executed well and got the job done."

Robinson credited his offensive line for his success on the ground.

"They opened up some big holes for me tonight," Robinson said. "I couldn't have done it without them."

Robinson's coach, Gary Swenson, praised his star running back's performance.

"Zay is a special player," Swenson said. "He's a hard worker and a great leader. He's the heart and soul of our team."

Robinson's performance is a reminder that he is one of the top players in the state of Iowa. He has already received several scholarship offers from major college football programs, including Iowa, Iowa State, and Nebraska.

Robinson is excited about the future of Valley football.

"We have a lot of talent on this team," Robinson said. "We're capable of doing something special this season."
