Florida Legislature Passes Sales Tax Holidays for 2023
Six Sales Tax Holidays to Provide Relief to Floridians
The Florida Legislature has passed and Governor DeSantis has signed into law six sales tax holidays for 2023, expanding on the Home Hardening sales tax exemption from the 2022 legislative session. The Florida Department of Revenue provides a comprehensive list of all sales tax holidays and exemption periods, available in both video and printable format.
Back-to-School Sales Tax Holidays
The Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday will occur twice in 2023. The first holiday ends on Sunday, August 6th, and the second holiday will begin shortly after. A list of eligible items can be found on the Department of Revenue's website.
Other Sales Tax Holidays
In addition to the Back-to-School holidays, Florida will also offer tax holidays for the following items in 2023:
- Gas Ranges and Cooktops: July 1 - June 30, 2024
- Energy-Star Appliances: February 24 - March 5
- Hurricane Preparedness Supplies: May 29 - September 4
- Freedom Week Sales Tax Holiday: July 1 - July 7
Qualifying Purchases
During Florida's tax-free weekends, shoppers can purchase a variety of items without paying sales tax. Eligible items may include clothing, shoes, school supplies, and hurricane preparedness supplies. For a complete list of eligible items, refer to the Department of Revenue's website.
